Bio: The patient is a 20-year-old woman who suffered bunions most of her life. She is a hairstylist who spends most days on her feet and didn’t want bunions to continue impacting her lifestyle. She previously had a traditional osteotomy and did not want to endure another lengthy recovery period.
Procedure: Dr. Geldwert combined HyperFlex®️, bone shaving, and an Akin osteotomy in a minimally-invasive procedure to correct the bunion at the source and realign the toe to its proper position.
Result: Patient reported minimal pain after surgery and an overall easier recovery than her previous osteotomy. She was weight-bearing in a protective shoe for 2 weeks post-op, after which she transitioned into her regular sneakers. She was able to return to her job as a hairstylist 2 weeks post-op and the alignment of the joint remained stable.
Patient Testimonial: I feel like going into the procedure, I was nervous about the recovery because I have a lot of things coming up, but I’m glad to say with each day I feel myself healing and getting better and better. I’m really liking the results as well, and I’m excited to now be able to wear more shoes [than] I’ve been to in the past
